Downturned Mouth Corners

Downturned mouth corners result from a mix of ageing and gravity. As we get older, we lose volume and structure in our faces with the loss of collagen and elastin production – meaning the skin sags. Another cause of this is an overactive depressor anguli oris – its contraction is what pulls the mouths corners down. Excessive movement of this muscle can also result in issues. Plump and youthful cheeks begin to droop. This is the cause of many other issues – such as wrinkles and marionette lines. A downturned mouth can look sad or angry, and the

The look created by downturned mouth corners can be a sad or upset one.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used to provide a way to ‘lift’ the downturned corners of a mouth in a subtle and natural looking manner. Dermal fillers make use of hyaluronic acid to provide structure to the face, allowing for the effective reduction of the sag in the mouth corners.

There’s a wide variety of different dermal fillers available, including wrinkle and cheek fillers. What fillers will be used depends upon the extent of the sagging. Cheek fillers for example, are stronger than standard wrinkle fillers, and ensure a much stronger structure is created.

Dr Q can, using dermal fillers, provide a subtle but effective change which can ease and remove the sag of the mouth corners.

FaceTite

FaceTite is a fantastic treatment for handling sagging skin. Using radiofrequency, it is possible to ‘melt’ the fat and in turn tighten the skin, creating a more youthful appearance.

Treatment for Downturned Mouth Corners

Botox

Botox is a superb treatment for handling downturned mouth corners in cases of an overactive muscle. Botox injections work by stopping the signal from the nerve to the offending muscle. In this case, Botox can be used to stop the overactive depressor anguli oris muscle from furthering this drooping of the mouth corners. Botox downtime is minimal, and the treatment is easy to perform.

Dr Q has years of experience working with Botox.

Thread Lift

In some cases, a thread lift can help with downturned mouth corners. Thread lifts use tiny threads to treat the sagging of the skin. The threads have tiny hooks and barbs, which help to lift the cheeks.
